Overview
The Guitar Wing comes with a boot loader that allows you to upgrade the firmware using the Guitar Wing's USB Receiver in coordination with the Firmware Update Utility. This allows us to add features to the controller, provide bug fixes, and respond to user feedback on an ongoing basis. 'The Firmware Update Utility requires the USB-Receiver to update the firmware of the Guitar Wing.'

Connection Management
'The Firmware Update Utility requires the USB-Receiver to update the firmware of the Guitar Wing.
Details on managing the connection between the Guitar Wing and the USB Receiver are available in the

Updating Your Firmware
Find Your Firmware Version
To see if your Guitar Wing's firmware is up to date:
1. Launch the Firmware Update Software with the usb-receiver plugged in.
- You're Guitar Wing should Not be in firmware update mode for this step.
2. Using the 'connect' bar at the bottom of the screen, ensure the USB Receiver is connected to the Guitar Wing.
3. Once you have connected, the firmware version is displayed at the bottom-right hand corner of the screen.
If you're firmware version does not match the most recent version, then you may want to perform a firmware upgrade.
- 'Firmware version is reported in versions 1.05+ of the firmware update software.'
- 'If your firmware is reported as v0.00, your controller has not been detected, or your controller may be in firmware update mode (which does not report firmware version.'
Get the Current Firmware Image
- Download the newest firmware image.
- Extract the received '.zip' file to reveal the '.bin' file that is the file that you need for the firmware update.
Get the Firmware Update Software
- Download the Firmware Update Utility for your operating system.
- Extract the received '.zip' file.
Put Your Guitar Wing Into Firmware Update Mode
To use the bootloader, the Guitar Wing must be placed in firmware update mode.
- Ensure your battery is charged, and then unplug the guitar wing.
- Turn the Guitar Wing off.
- Hold down any of the four buttons on the side of the Guitar Wing while switching the controller on.
The Guitar Wing will put on a little light show, to indicate that it is ready to receive a firmware update.
Send the Firmware File
- Close all other midi and music related applications.
- Open the Guitar Wing Firmware Update Utility.
- Using the 'connect' bar at the bottom of the screen, ensure the USB Receiver is connected to the Guitar Wing. The connect bar should display that the Guitar Wing is in Firmware Update mode.
- Drag and drop the firmware <file_name>.bin into the area labeled 'drag firmware file here'.
- Wait for the application to say "programming complete".
- The Guitar Wing will instantly reboot to the new firmware.*
*If the Guitar Wing is stuck in firmware update mode after a firmware update, there was an error with the update. Repeat the firmware update.
